Almost all moves in and out of an ASC stack have a service time. The following table describes from which timestamp N4 derives the service time for the different move kinds.
Move Kind |
Timestamp from which XPS Derives the Service Time |
---|---|
Vessel load |
The vessel load schedule |
Gate receival or delivery |
The truck's arrival time at the gate |
Yard inbound |
The container's arrival in the transfer zone (TZ) |
Yard outbound |
The arrival of the chassis on which the container will be placed in the TZ |
Internal yard (within an ASC stack) |
The creation time of the plan |
When N4 analyzes a move list, it applies penalties based on the particular sequence, taking into account the time that is required to complete previous moves in the sequence. Thus, a sequence that places a specific move second in the list may incur no or an early penalty, while placing it fourth will generate a late penalty. In addition, N4 multiplies some late penalties by the order of the container in the sequence; this amplifies the severity of a late completion. For example, for a container that is third in the list, N4 triples the late penalty. In general, N4 does not apply penalties to the first move in a sequence.
Balancing these penalties is a complex task that requires some trial and error in setting the parameters. In general, to have N4 place a move kind earlier in the list, increase a late penalty's value.
The following parameters control late and early move penalties.
Parameter |
Description |
---|---|
OPTELI |
Type: EC Parameter Description: An earliness penalty given to yard outbound moves (outbound land-side moves to an internal truck). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to early containers when determining overall scores. XPS considers the service time early, so these moves are either early or late. To help prevent congestion in the land-side transfer zone, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 1000 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTELS |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for lateness of inbound land-side moves from an external truck (gate receival). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to a late container to determine the lateness score. To schedule these moves sooner, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 6 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTELT |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Penalty for early outbound land-side moves to an external truck (gate delivery). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to an early container to determine the overall score. XPS considers the service time early, so these moves are either early or late. To help prevent congestion in the land-side transfer zone, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 1000 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTEWO |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Penalty for early delivery of waterside-out moves (vessel load). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to an early container to determine the overall score. Setting LOADTM determines how much time before service time is considered early. By default, XPS considers 30 minutes or more before service time early. To help prevent congestion in the waterside transfer zone, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 100 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTILS |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for lateness of inbound land-side moves from an internal truck (yard inbound move). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to a late container to determine the lateness score. To schedule these moves sooner, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 6 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTLIP |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late inbound land-side prehandles. XPS does not currently use this parameter because ASC Scheduler does not consider inbound moves for prehandling. Default: 6 Module: Equipment Control Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTLIS |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late intrablock jobs (internal prehandles). XPS does not currently use this parameter because ASC Scheduler does not consider internal moves for prehandling. Default: 1 Module: Equipment Control Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTLSI |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late outbound land-side moves to an internal truck (yard outbound move). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to a late container to determine the lateness score. To schedule these moves sooner, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 30 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTLST |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late outbound land-side moves to an external truck (gate delivery). XPS adds a weighted value based on this penalty to a late container to determine the lateness score. To schedule these moves sooner, increase the value set in this parameter. Default: 30 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTWIP |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late inbound waterside prehandles. XPS does not currently use this parameter because ASC Scheduler does not consider inbound moves for prehandling. Default: 6 Module: Equipment Control Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
OPTWSO |
Type: EC Parameter Description: Priority for late waterside-out moves (vessel load). XPS adds a weighted value (this penalty multiplied by the container's sequence number) to any late container to determine its lateness score. To schedule these moves sooner, increase the value of this parameter. Default: 30 Module: Equipment Control with ECN4 Area/Option: AYC Manager Option |
